I was born in Havana, Cuba the island with all the colors of the world and the most beautiful beaches on this earth. I was raised in Brooklyn, New York and New York City. I was surrounded by the greatest art and museums that exist. Being an artist is the greatest gift in the world. I have been drawing all of my life or since I can remember. I was given a lot of encouragement and I started studying art from a very young age. My first experience was at the Brooklyn Museum Art School drawing the nude. I then went on to one of the finest art schools in New York. The School Of Visual Arts. I received my BFA from The School of Visual Arts and The University of Miami. I also hold an MFA in
motion picture production from the
University of Miami.
I love to draw for the written word. It has been the most creative direction that I have had in my artistic life. When I am given a short story or book the images just come alive in my mind. I have been a professional artist and children's book illustrator for more than 30 years. Clients include Gevalia Coffee, N.Y.; Harcourt Brace & Co.; Orlando, Florida; Children's Press, N.Y. Scholastic, N.Y. Monotype Composition, Boston, Massachussetts; Univision, Sabado Gigante, Miami, Florida; Brain Wash, San Francisco, California etc.....
I have also taught art to young children, teenagers and adults for many years in private classes. I have helped teenagers prepare their portfolios for entrance into some of the most competitive art High Schools and colleges in the country. Many have entered and later received full scholarships to schools like The School Of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, RISD, Chicago Art Institute etc.
I moved to the Bay Area about 4 years ago from
Miami Beach, Florida. Today my studio is located in the East Bay of San Francisco in the town of Albany, California. I am thrilled to be back in a stimulating environment with a city that is pure growth and movement. I live with my husband Mo and my son Ely who is now 17 and loves San Francisco
and my and Chihuahua Phila.
Let the art continue!!
